LYME DISEASE TREATMENT IN CYPRUS
Lyme disease, also known as Lyme borreliosis, is caused by the tick-borne spirochete bacterium Borrelia burgdorfer.
Oral Symptoms of Lyme Disease
Tick borne Lyme disease can cause:
Facial and dental pain (tooth ache)
Facial nerve palsy
Headaches
Temporomandibular (jaw) joint pain
Masticatory (chewing) muscle pain
Other oral symptoms can be:
Dry mouth
Tooth sensitivity
Pulpitis, or the oral inflammation of dental pulp
Bell’s palsy, or partial facial paralysis
Involvement of the saliva producing glands may manifest as brief inflammation of the gland
When performing dental procedures on a patient with Lyme disease, the effects that can precipitate must also be considered.
Orotox testing
At Yiannikos Centre of Holistic Dentistry we offer Orotox testing for our patients in order to evaluate whether pathogenic bacteria are present inside the root canals of dead or endodontically-treated teeth (especially if no laser is to be performed for root canal sterilization during a root canal treatment).
These bacteria release toxins which are harmful for the body. With Orotox testing we can detect these toxic bacteria and determine whether we should extract an endodontically treated tooth or not.
Biocompatible restorations and amalgam filling removal
Toxicity from metals in the mouth may also contribute to Lyme Disease symptoms. Therefore, when you need to get a cavity treated, it’s best to choose biocompatible metal-free restorations and/or protocols that will remove any metals in the oral cavity with absolute safety.
